The 44th Annual meeting of the DESERT FISHES COUNCIL (DFC) will be held 14 TO 18 NOVEMBER 2012 (Wednesday to Sunday). The meeting is being hosted by the U.S. National Park Service at Furnace Creek Visitor Center in Death Valley National Park. Please renew your membership at least three days before paying meeting registration or submitting an abstract. All of these payments can be made in the Online Store, where you will find more detail regarding about the process. Complete details regarding accomodations and all other aspects of the meeting are in the complete call for papers.

El 44o congreso anual del Consejo de los Peces del Desierto (CPD / DFC) se convoca el 14 al 18 de noviembre 2012 (miércoles a domingo). El anfitrión es el U.S. National Park Service y la sede es Furnace Creek Visitor Center en Death Valley (Valle del Muerte) Parque Nacional. Favor de actualizar su pago de cuotas de membresía por lo menos trés días antes de pagar su inscripción al congreso o meter un resúmen. Todos los pagos se puede hacer en la Tienda Online del DFC donde hay más información sobre como pagar y todos detalles sobre el congreso se puede encontrar en el solicitud completo de trabajos.

Conservation Grant Applications

The Desert Fishes Council (DFC) Conservation Grants Program has been established to support
projects that contribute to preserving the biological integrity of aquatic ecosystems and their
associated life forms in arid regions, in accordance with the mission of the Council. Projects can
include direct conservation activities, research, outreach, or equipment needed for these
activities.
Grant funds are dependent on annual interest available from the DFC Conservation Account,
distribution of General Funds and donations. Multiple grants may be awarded annually in
amounts of up to $1,000. Larger grants may be considered under special circumstances.
Grants may be awarded individually only to DFC members in good standing. Recipients are
expected to present a paper at an annual DFC symposium on the project in which the funds are
used. DFC support should be recognized in publications and presentations.
Proposals should be submitted by January 31 and decisions will be made by March 31. Proposals
may be submitted after this period, however awards will depend on availability of funds.
Applicants will submit the completed Conservation Grant Application.

Selection criteria will include: applicability to the DFC mission, benefit to subject species, status
of subject species, potential for long-term beneficial impacts, probability of success, applicant
credentials, availability of alternative funding sources, and significance of the funding to
applicant/project.
Selection of projects will be by an ad hoc committee comprised of the Member-at-Large and two
additional members, at least one of which will be a member of the Executive Committee.
Members of the current selection committee and their dependents/students are not eligible for
grants.
