Meeting Information

General Information about Desert Fishes Council Meetings

Annual meetings are in November. Every third meeting is at Furnace Creek, Death Valley National Park, California (where the Council was born), but meetings otherwise alternate between sites in the Western U.S. and Northern Mexico. Meeting announcements are mailed in spring to all current members and are posted in these pages.

Both Area Reports and Contributed Papers are presented at meetings in the form of oral and poster presentations. Area reports are multi-authored compilations of contributions provided to Area Coordinators by area offices of Federal and State governmental agencies, as well as by Non Governmental Organizations that work with them, but anyone is welcome to contribute pertinent information. The intent of these coordinated reports is to provide a succinct overview of activities within each region and to put interested parties in contact with contributors for further discussions. Contributed papers are typically reports on scientific research. Special thematic symposia are also often held at annual meetings.

At all meetings, awards are given for the best papers presented by students and we offer small travel grants to support travel and other costs of meeting attendance.

Abstracts, business meeting minutes, and all other details of activities at the meetings are published in Proceedings of the Desert Fishes Council.

Complete information on all past and present meetings is also available.
