- Los Gatos
The water of many marshes takes on a reddish hue.
- Los Gatos
This marsh is near its annual low water level. At its highest, it will fill up and overflow the sandy, sparsely vegetated basin.
- Near Los Gatos
All the Allenrolfea occidentalis in this shallow basin were killed by flooding in 2004, a very high water year. This area had not flooded to this extent for at least as long as it took this shrub to grow 1 meter in height.
- Antiguos Mineros
Grazing by horses has a severe impact on this prime habitat for Terrapene coahuila, an endemic, endangered box turtle. Horse grazing in the valley is widespread.
